Creating Lifesaving Opportunities for Caddo Parish Animals

Companions of Caddo Parish Animal Shelter (CPAS) began as a grassroots effort by local citizens who wanted to reduce the number of animals lost at Caddo Parish Animal Shelter. After decades of community-driven lifesaving work, Companions of CPAS officially became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in November 2022.

Our mission is simple: create lifesaving opportunities for homeless animals in Caddo Parish through foster support, education, medical assistance, and rescue partnerships.

At the center of everything we do are our foster families. By opening their homes, fosters give shelter animals a safe place to heal, grow, and prepare for their next chapter. We provide our foster families with guidance, supplies, veterinary support, and ongoing resources so they feel confident caring for animals in need.

Foster Forward Program

Our Foster Forward Program gives dogs and cats a pathway to safety through rescue partnerships, including transports to northern rescue organizations. Each animal is placed in a foster home before leaving Louisiana, allowing them to receive individualized care and socialization while preparing for their journey.

Medical Assistance Program

Animals with treatable medical needs often face the greatest challenges in shelters. Our Medical Assistance Program provides veterinary care and foster placement so these animals have the opportunity to recover in a safe and loving environment. Once healthy, they are connected with rescue partners or adoptive families.

Mission Statement

To promote, educate, and advocate the animals at Caddo Parish Animal Services (also referred to in these bylaws by “CPAS”) in order to achieve a positive outcome. Our organization works to achieve this by heavily networking the animals, providing medical care for emergency cases, raising donations, educating the public, assisting in transports conducted by shelter staff, enrichment, and other needs where the shelter needs assistance to positively help all animals at the CPAS open-intake shelter to the best of our abilities.
